APB

title:: The Radio 1 Sessions
label:: Young American

APB's The Radio 1 Sessions collects five Radio 1 sessions from 1981 - 1984 for the first time.

It is not a reissue of a record that came out in the past.

La Peste

title:: Better off La Peste
label:: Dionysus

Better off La Peste is a monumental release - a 26 song CD by a band that only released one 2 song single.

There is great stuff here - both sides of the monumental Better Off Dead b-w Black single plus 12 studio tracks which have recently come to light for the first time ever.

Utopia Daydream: New Rubble Volume 4

various artists
label:: Radioactive Records

Utopia Daydream, Volume 4 in the New Rubble series, spotlights obscure 60s pop music recorded between 1967 and 1969, and is a collector's delight for those interested in the pure pop done 60s style.

There aren't really any hints of the usual "psych," though there are elements of fuzz guitar and lyrical content that sometimes go beyond the basic pop song structure.

Scratch My Back: New Rubble Volume 5

various artists
label:: Radioactive Records

Volume 5 in the New Rubble series, Scratch My Back covers UK girl singers from the 60s with an edge.

Included here are fuzzed out girl in the garage type classics, blaring lead UK girl singers and frenetic beats that accompany edgier songs than the typical girl group sound.

Iggy & the Stooges

title:: I'm Sick of You!
label:: Bomp

I'm Sick Of You was originally a 7inch which came out in 1977 on Bomp. The recordings were demos for the 1972 record Raw Power.

After the 3 songs which appeared on the single, I'm Sick Of You includes 5 live tracks which are pretty interesting too.

Wayfaring Strangers: Ladies From the Canyon

various artists
label:: Numero Group

The liner notes talk at length about the influence and importance of Joni Mitchell on this kind of female introspective songwriting found on Ladies of the Canyon which also happens to be the title of Joni's 1970 album for Reprise records.

Of the fourteen cuts almost all are winners and as usual Numero Group has gone out of their way to include detailed biographical info and the original album covers for all the artists.
