DJ Hell
title:: Geteert & Gefedert
label::
Disko B
Before DJ Hell started the International Deejay Gigolos label, he released Geteert & Gefedert on the Disko B label in 1994.
Lost to the times in '94, Disko B has seen fit to reissue this full length disc in 2004, and even though there's nothing too earthshaking here, it's definitely refreshing to hear DJ Hell in his trance electronic mode.
The Light Bulb Project
title:: Go!
label:: Lowride
The photo on the cover makes the record look like it could be Client, ADULT. or Chicks On Speed, but The Light Bulb Project are not like any of those bands.
The Light Bulb Project are disco-pop, and The Light Bulb Project are super fine.
Theo Parrish
title:: First Floor
label::
PeaceFrog Records
First Floor compiles together a couple of EP's released in 1998 as part of Theo's Sound Signature series. He used sound sculpture - a form of orchestration using live instruments, looped recordings, the human voice, and numerous other sound generating devices
The tracks are often 9 or 10 minutes long, building up as they go, mesmerizing structures which confound those who want to hear something certain.
Smash TV
title:: Bits For Breakfast
label::
Bpitch Control
Smash TV are Holger Zilshe and Michael Schmidt from Berlin. Bits For Breakfast is their second record, the follow-up to 2002's robo-pop classic Electrified.
Smash TV have made a real effort to move on from the sound of their last record, and while it for the most part works, I don't love this record as much as I did Electrified.
Tali
title:: Lyric on my Lip
label:: Full Cycle Records
I am no expert on drum 'n bass, Roni Size or Reprazent, and I know that Tali is part of that circle, but I do know what I like, and Lyric on my Lip is a pretty good record. There are vocals on every song, and songs that somehow make me think of Ellen Allien.
Should you go out and buy this record? Well, it has a mainstream r n' b / dance type vocal sound like the mash-ups of 2002 always worked with, and that may not be your thing. But if that doesn't faze you then this CD has a lot of appeal.
