With a riff that recalls Pere Ubu's 'Final Solution' played by Jah Wobble and a voice like Marianne Faithful, Linda Lamb's Hot Room is a corker of a cut.
This 12inch has the original version on the A side and a Tiga remix on the flip. The Tiga remix takes out the strings and replaces them with airy synths. He makes the track a little longer as well. Both sides are pretty ace by me.
Linda Lamb is an artist from NYC. This is her only release so far. Her sound is nowhere as disco as most International Deejay Gigolo records. Sometimes her voice reminds me of two Akron Ohio Stiff Records acts from the 80s: Jane Aire & The Belvederes, or Rachel Sweet with electronic backing.
Hot Room tells a story. Here are the lyrics, as transcribed by gullbuy reader Adam::
butterflies coming out of the hot room
white thighs hanging in fruit of the loom
my new disguise i hide away in this cocoon
butterflies coming out of the hot room
a plate of meatballs caught on fire
my inspiration is getting higher
pay attention did i forget to mention
A plate of meatballs caught on fire?
you see freedoms an idea that can not be measured
am i getting through to what i thought was treasured
freedoms an idea that can not be measured
am i getting through to what i thought was treasured
she danced her dance while making soup while all around us the others do
back in moscow it was still illegal
her eyes were closed so that made it better
her line was long and a need her sweater
back in moscow it was still illegal
you see freedoms an idea that can not be measured
am i getting through to what i thought was treasured
freedoms an idea that can not be measured
am i getting through to what i thought was treasured
