The Dysfunctional Psychedelic Waltons is Fabien Waltmann and Nellee Hooper, plus guest vocalists.
They have two singles out. the first had Roisin Murphy of Moloko as vocalist. The second has Kelli Ali of Sneaker Pimps singing.
The EP has 4 versions of Payback time on it, totaling 17 minutes of music, plus a video for the song.
I have never heard the first single, and wish I had bought it when I had it in my hands two years ago. I like Moloko and was curious about the project right from the start.
When this single showed up in the store, I went home and checked the internet to get info about it. I discovered that Payback Time has had success as a Levi's ad and was all over the place when it came out a year ago.
I never liked Sneaker Pimps, but I like this single a lot - all versions. The sound is vocal oriented with dirty synths and pop structure. It is a pretty good sound. I've never heard advertisers in the US ever use such a sharp track in ads!
All the mixes are different. I like Jacques Lu Cont's work as Zoot Woman and enjoy the mix he has here.
Deadly Avenger did a remix of the Get Carter theme. I love that film, and doing a mix of the theme is instant cred as far as I am concerned.
The video is a vector art Flash movie about a humanoid mouse cheating on his mousefriend. The video works with the graphics of the EP cover and has scenes of driving through streets on the way to the rendezous. It isn't anything special.
