A few months ago I added a 12' with bands remixing songs from Mum, though it had nothing to do with this band (see June 19 2001 gullbuy). You see, there are two bands named Mum. The only difference is that the Icelandic Múm have an accent on the 'u', and the Austrian ones don't. Problem is, I get lazy about putting in the accents, so the two bands seem the same.
Without a doubt, my favorite of the two is the band from Iceland. Their LP and 12' have continued to cause a stir long after they originally came out (see August 8 and September 5, 2000 gullbuys).
This remix 12' has 4 cuts:
A1 = 'There is a number of small things' & 'The ballad of the broken birdie records' - µ-Ziq straight mix.
A2 = 'Smell memory' - Traktor remix.
B1 = 'There is a number of small things' & 'The ballad of the broken birdie records' - µ-Ziq f*cked mix.
B2 = 'Smell memory' - Bix remix.
I believe that if Múm put out a second record as good as all their present fans hope for, they will rise to find themselves with an incredible number of fans.
Múm have a very attractive and dreamy sound that is sharp and alive. They are a young band that have the excitement and look that Stereolab had when they first appeared so long ago. I can't wait to see where Múm take us. All I know is that I'm going with them...
