  1. SALLY EATON: "Flowers In the Air"
  2. COLLEEN LOVETT: "Birds with Broken Wings Pt 1"
  3. CHERYL DILCHER: "All Woman"
  4. COLLEEN LOVETT: "Women Liberation Blues"
  5. CHERYL DILCHER: "High"
  6. CAROLYN HESTER: "I'm Magic, Man"
  7. LILLY & MARIA: "EveryBody Knows"
  8. MICHELE: "Smilin'"
  9. MARGO GURYAN: "Love"
  10. TOBIE COLUMBUS: "Come In My Mouth"
  11. RUTH COPELAND: "Your Love Been So Good To Me"
  12. COLLEEN LOVETT: "Asleep In His Arms (part)"
  13. COLLEEN LOVETT: "Love Man"
  14. MICHELE: "Believe You"
  15. LINDA PERHACS: "Parallelograms"
  16. COLLEEN LOVETT: "Birds with Broken Wings Pt 2"
  17. XAVIERA HOLLANDER: "The Hippie".

There are some pretty good songs on this disc, and they all all from records you'd have to pay a fortune to own, so this comp is a great deal and fun too.

LP

Swell Maps were together much of the 70's, but only put out their first single in 1978. This LP compiles the A-sides of their 2nd and 3rd singles ('Dresden Style' & 'Real Shocks'), a B-sides from their first single ('Ripped and Torn'), a B-side from their 2nd single ('Ammunition Train'), 2 unreleased mixes ('Black Velvet' & 'Vertical Slum'), 4 previously unreleased tracks ('Forest Fire', 'Winter Rainbow', 'H.A.K.', & 'Hey Johnny! Where's the Chewing gum'), and 4 more songs ('International Rescue', 'Spitfire Parade', 'I Really Love You', & 'New York') recorded in 1978-1979. Only 4 of these songs are on the recent Mute Records Swell Maps compilation CD "Train Out Of It". Swell Maps included brothers Nikki Sudden and Epic Soundtracks, and Jowe Head.

Issue #2 of the Philadelphia fanzine was added to WZBC a few months ago. It was a very good looking new magazine with articles that were not about already overexposed things. This new issue has really seen an improvement on an already good thing. Not only is the zine much fatter, but there is a 16 track CD as well. The CD has all exclusive songs (except one) that are really good, not just throw aways. Big names like Fridge, Matmos, Ganger, Dame Darcy, and Volume All Stars sit alongside lesser known artists with just as much value.

Tube Bar

format
7inch

Second single by this Leicester band. The label (Tube Bar) is run by Turk, who is part of the Prolapse family (associated with them: he doesn't play in the band). The first single ('Not For You') was good, but this second single is really great and should guarantee a strong reception for their upcoming full length. The A-side sounds like Pavement singing for Flaming Lips, though better than both in modern terms.

Flotsam & Jetsam

format
7inch

Glasgow band with Van Pelt-ish sound (though more sing-songy) and a strong song (Shill Display) that make this single worth seeking out. The Glasgow label Flotsam & Jetsam (called "F&J Records" on the sleeve) has consistently put out great stuff, such as the El Hombre Trajeado 7inch 'Logo' and the El Hombre Trajeado/The Karelia split single. We currently have an F&J Records single on our playlist. It's The Amphetameanies, which was reviewed last week (May 25th)

From their Peel session recorded 18 months ago. The vinyl version has three unreleased tracks 'Ex-Boyfriend', 'Daddy I Want A Pony', and 'Homework'. The CD version includes 'Spice Girls- Who do you think you are' & 'Just 17', which we have the original versions of on 7inch. Period Pains are an all-girl band who play early Avengers-like playful punk.

Amnesiac Godz / Country Teasers

title

split single

label

Guided Missile

format
7inch

Amnesiac Godz is Jason Lowenstein (drums/bass) and Russ Pollard (Guitars) of Sebadoh. They toss off 2 songs. The first ('Mournful Oatmeal') sounds a bit like old Volcano Suns with part of the riff from Devo's 'Jocko Homo' thrown in. It's the best of their side. The second song('Ghost in the Practice space on Granny Eve') sounds like Mark E. Smith singing for Blue Cheer, with a pinch of The Bunnybrains. Country Teasers is a band made up of people from The Male Nurse. Their first song, 'Hairy Wine' is the jewel of this single. It tells a tale, and has a fun to listen to sound. Their second song ('Reynard The Fox') sounds like Charlie McAlister and The Lune.
