Various Artists are a band from Cologne. On this 12" they are remixed by Autechre, Funkstorung, Pole, and Monolake. Fatcat is the king of 12"s it seems, and this one only helps confirm that judgement. All the 12"s Fatcat releases have nondescript covers (until recently they were just white sleeves, now they are all grey), but are always filled with mysterious bands and projects that push the envelope of modern sounds by anyones standards, while remaining infinitely listenable.

Cato

title

'Elevator' b-w 'You're Diluted'

label

Lissy's

format
7inch

On the A-side Cato sound like a cross between Gay Dad, The Only Ones, and Further. The B-side is a mellow song that has female vocals and sounds like Novak, with flute and everything.

Split single

Earworm

Fridge are in a reflective frame of mind, the drum loop is heavily slowed and the bleeps are somnolent, restful and dreamy until boosted by a sprinkling of angel dust random melody halfway through. Portal sound like FSA in early bedroom fuzz mode.

Damon & Naomi with members of the Japanese band Ghost, recorded April 9, 1998 at TT The Bears in Cambridge MA. The produstion (recorded by Paul Hilcoff) is great, and the performance is spot-on. The songs are covers of songs by Bob Dylan and Can, respectively.

Brand new single which follows up the self-titled debut album we added on 1/19/99. This single has the first recordings with their new drummer. Both songs are great female vocal punk-pop. I think this single is better than the LP, and it has really pretty clear vinyl with red mixed in it, making it pinkish.
